My name is Sam Skogstad and I’m pleased to serve as Director of Music and Liturgy here at Blessed Sacrament Parish.
My love of music and liturgy began at St. Aloysius Gonzaga Parish in West Allis, WI where I attended grade school (became Mary Queen of Saints in 2004) and was very active in music ministry from children's choir, to adult choir (began in 4th grade), and becoming a cantor after graduating 8th grade in 2010.
That love for music continued on at Pius XI High School in Milwaukee, where I sang in the choirs all 4 years, and was student conductor of the Madrigal ensemble my senior year. Along with standard high school concerts, we had many opportunities to lead important liturgical events, most notably on Heart of the Nation.
Upon graduating from Pius XI in 2014, I then became the director of Music and Liturgy at St. Aloysius - while also pursuing a music degree; beginning at the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire, and then finishing at the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee. I served from 2014 - December of 2018. Sadly St. Aloysius was closed on May 2021. But I will always cherish the place that formed me and gave me the passion for liturgy that I have today.
I began my ministry at Blessed Sacrament on January 1, 2019. Working on building this parish music program has been a rewarding experience thus far. There is such a hunger for uplifting and inspiring liturgical experiences all over, and I firmly believe that we provide that here at Blessed Sacrament. Working alongside Fr. Mark Payne has been a blessing, and only makes serving this parish more enjoyable. See you at Mass!
