RCIA & RCIC: Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults/Children. Team Members Sponsors are vital to the RCIA/RCIC process. A Sponsor builds a one-on-one relationship with the candidate, serving as a companion, listener, and mentor; sharing her or his own faith. As a Sponsor, you walk with a Candidate through a formation process that culminates with initiation into the Catholic Church. The role of Sponsor is not that of catechist; you are not expected to know every aspect of the Church’s teaching, but rather simply to be a guide, an example of a Catholic living your faith as
best as you can. Sponsors must be active, practicing Catholics, and be fully initiated in the Catholic Church (Baptism, Confirmation, 1st Holy Communion).
